as you can see, I’ve been messing around with the site code somewhat. :)

I’m in the process of updating all of the pages of the site to valid xhtml 1.0 transitional. it’s not as easy as it looks, considering the giant mess that is this site … so far I’ve managed to upgrade about half of the pages (tested with the w3c’s handy validator app.)

I’d recommend that anyone viewing this site be using at least internet explorer 5.0 or netscape 6.0 (and preferably ie5.5 sp1 and ns6.1, the latest stable versions). Be sure not to use ie5.5 sp2 (released july 31st) because it doesn’t work with the quicktime plug-in, among others (yeesh). I haven’t tried the site in opera 5.x, but I’m assuming it’ll at least be partially functional. adhering to xhtml 1.0 means that your html is generally tidy enough to work everywhere pretty decently. it’s the javascript/dhtml/css that causes problems. :)

I have noticed a marked speed increase in page rendering using xhtml, though, which is a nice little bonus … besides the fact that xhtml is where it’s at, of course. next up, validating my stylesheet against the css level-1 spec. ugh.

I’m still working on that redesign — my lazyassed designer friend (hehe) still hasn’t put together the templates he offered to do for me, so I’m looking for creative inspiration of my own, now. yikes. scary though, considering what I’ve done with the site so far. :)

cluckyourown is still going strong, but we’re not getting many postings. c’mon, people — instead of just reading threads, post something!

another cool tidbit: I’m working on some funky stuff (php/mysql) for adcritic.com. very cool site, and I think it’s just gonna keep getting better. most people don’t realize that part of the staff is here in vancouver, either. more details to follow.

also, thanks to mr. twuble for giving me the idea to put up a php hints area. it’s not totally done yet, but it will be soon. I’ve already built the data model, and now I just need to import my old tips from zend’s site. once that’s done, I’m going to start by cleaning up the code from my dvd listing and making it available to the public to download. sound cool? if you want to see any of the other php code from my site, shoot me an e-mail and I’ll see what I can do …

btw, I’ve also posted up a page of stuff I have for sale. check it out, maybe you’ll find something you like. :)

side note: some of you might have noticed the slashdot headlines on the left-hand nav, which is a new little feature. it’s actually more of an experiment — the headlines are being pulled in via slashdot’s xml news feed, and being parsed via some nifty php-based xml parser code stolen from joe stump’s xml how-to article (yeah, it’s old) over at phpbuilder.com. very cool.
