the great indoors
As some of you know, I’m in a bit of an odd situation right now at home. I’ve been doing the ol’ furniture re-org; I moved my home theater into the living room (surprisingly, re-wiring it all was pretty painless, aside from the surrounds), and I’m planning on doing some painting, patching and general repairs and maintenance around the townhouse over the next couple of weeks.
I’m just about finished watching season 3 of Six Feet Under, succumbing to each cliff-hanger episode by watching another one.. and another.. etc. Since there’s basically nothing to watch right now on TV, and there isn’t a whole lot of interesting new stuff on DVD that I haven’t already seen (the only one I’m itching to see is The Machinist), I’ve taken to watching various series that run on HBO or the FX Network in the US.. stuff you can’t get in Canada except in re-runs for the most part, or on regular cable (bleh.) I’d rather watch stuff in HD if I’m going to watch anything. :) After I finished watching season 3 of The Shield (awesome show), I started alternating between episodes of Six Feet Under and Deadwood. Once I’m done with those, I’m looking at The Wire and Carnivale for my HDTV fix for the next while. It really sucks that for the most part you can’t get any of these excellent shows as first-run in Canada.. maybe the CRTC will lighten up one day and allow us to get HBO without buying a satellite dish.
Aside from my home theater fanaticism, I went up to Whistler over the long weekend with my cousin and did a little downhill mountain biking (i.e. down the mountain, which I’m still recovering from.) After not having done any biking for quite a while (my bike was rusting in my storage locker until last weekend), borrowing someone’s expensive Kona mountain bike and heading down the side of a mountain is a bit of a shock to the system. :) I think I’ll be sticking to cross-country until I get used to it again…
I’ve also been skating again. I went out about a month ago and picked up a set of K2 Soul 7 inline skates and proceeded to hit the fresh asphalt down along the seawall behind the North Shore auto mall. Lots of nice clean (and brand new) pavement behind it, an awesome view of the city, and not a huge amount of people right now (until everyone finds out about it, doh.) I have to say, after giving away my old set of Oxygen skates, the new K2s are a huge upgrade. Inline skate boots and rails have changed a lot since I last bought a set, and it really does make skating a lot more interesting. There’s something to be said for being able to maneuver easily and turn on a dime, and skates don’t weigh nearly as much as they used to.
