Looks like I have a couple of co-headliners this month on the new music front. People In Planes, a Welsh “jazz-rock fusion” band (I guess that’s about the best you can define their sound), just released their debut album, As Far As The Eye Can See. I’ve noticed they’ve been panned a couple of times in reviews and compared to bands such as The Muse and Snow Patrol, which I would both consider to be much weaker, overrated, and completely soulless bands (heavy emo pains me, ugh.) My suggestion: listen for yourself. If you can’t get into amazing tracks like Penny, My Black Widow, Falling By The Wayside, or Moth — aside from the already-released single If You Talk Too Much (My Head Will Explode) — well, then, maybe you’re a closet Muse fan. :)

I’m glad I held off a couple of days on posting this entry because I had time to listen to Tool’s 10,000 Days in full, which is an amazing return to old Tool form. At first blush (I’ve only listened to the album in full a couple of times), I would have to say that my favorite tracks so far are Jambi, Right In Two, and the first (kick-ass, over 7 minute long) single, Vicarious. As well, I got my hands on Angels & Airwaves’ We Don’t Need To Whisper and Taking Back Sunday’s Louder Now, both definitely worth checking out.

I don’t think I’ve listened to this many excellent albums in a loooong time; not just that, noticing a lot of old names coming out with some good material (Tool, Live, Jeff Martin — formerly of the Tea Party, Rob Zombie, Godsmack, Jack White and his new band The Raconteurs.)
